We Believe in Israel (WBII) has today reached an important milestone, signing up the 15,000th activist, sealing its reputation as the UK’s fastest growing pro-Israel campaign.

The movement has almost doubled in size in the last 12 months, with 6,268 new recruits, 1,000 of them in the last month.

WBII recruits activists via participation in its campaigns, which can be accessed within seconds on this website, targeted outreach on Facebook and Twitter, and face-to-face recruitment at speaker meetings in synagogues and churches.

47 per cent of WBII’s activists are Jewish, 43 per cent Christian, and the remainder secular political supporters of Israel, including 650 elected local councillors from all parties.

BICOM launched WBII in May 2011 at the first of two We Believe in Israel Conferences, which was endorsed by the Board of Deputies, Jewish Leadership Council, UJIA and synagogue movements.

The movement supports a Two-State Solution but is completely pluralistic, open to the whole political and religious spectrum of pro-Israel opinion.

WBII Director Luke Akehurst said:

“We provide a simple way for ordinary people who care about Israel to have their voices heard in the corridors of power.

Today is a significant milestone for us. It is staggering that we have grown from just 1,000 activists when we launched to 15,000 now. In the last few months the growth has been exponential because we have run some really compelling campaigns that are both easy to participate in and resonate with supporters.

The next step is for us to reach 25,000 activists. We hope to do that this year. With a Jewish Community in the UK of nearly 270,000, the vast majority of whom are Zionists, and 20 per cent of the wider population feeling warm towards Israel, there is scope for far more growth.”
