Defending Free Speech & Protecting Jewish Students from Campus Extremism

The recent disgraceful events at King’s College London mark yet another alarming milestone in the erosion of free speech and the rise of mob intimidation on British campuses. Iranian dissident Faezeh Alavi, a young Muslim woman and artist, attempted to speak at a forum titled "From Conflict to Connection, Israelis and Iranians in Dialogue."But instead of engaging in debate, an aggressive, hostile mob silenced her.

Jewish students in attendance were directly targeted—singled out, threatened, and subjected to vile abuse. Their only crime? Wanting to take part in an open discussion. They came to listen, to learn, to engage. Instead, they were met with intimidation and hatred, harassed simply for existing in a space where their identity was unwelcome to the mob.

The event, intended as a place for constructive dialogue, was instead hijacked by radical activists who came not to debate, but to scream, threaten, and impose their will through intimidation. These were not defenders of human rights. These were enforcers of ideological purity—those who have weaponised slogans like “Free Palestine” to justify silencing, bullying, and even violence against Jewish students and pro-democracy voices.

The real scandal? King’s College London did nothing to protect its students. The university failed to ensure their safety, failed to remove the perpetrators, and failed to uphold even the most basic principles of academic integrity. Instead of standing firm, it cowered.

This cowardice cannot stand. WBII is launching an urgent campaign to hold King’s College London—and all British universities—accountable for the unchecked radicalisation that is spreading on campuses and putting Jewish students, dissidents, and free thinkers in harm’s way.

WBII’s Action Plan: Fighting Back Against Campus Extremism

📜 A formal letter to King’s College London
We are demanding a full investigation into how radical activists were allowed to run riot on campus, threaten Jewish and pro-democracy students, and shut down debate. King’s College must explain:

  • How these activists were allowed on campus.
  • What security failures led to this disgraceful episode.
  • What immediate steps the university will take to protect students from further harassment and ensure that Jewish and dissident voices are not silenced again.

🏛 A call to MPs for a formal parliamentary investigation
We urge MPs to launch a full inquiry into the radicalisation of British universities. This must include a call for evidence into:

  • The funding of radical student groups like SJP (Students for Justice in Palestine) and S4J (Students for Justice).
  • The role of foreign actors in spreading anti-Jewish hatred and extremism on British campuses.
  • How universities have enabled these groups to operate with impunity while Jewish students are increasingly unsafe in academic spaces.

📑 A research brief and policy recommendations
WBII will fund an in-depth research brief to expose:

  • The mechanics of radicalisation on UK campuses.
  • The facilitation of hate speech against Jewish students and minority voices.
  • The policy solutions needed to prosecute those inciting violence and ensure that universities actively combat radicalisation rather than appease it.

⚖️ Mandatory prosecution of perpetrators
Threats, harassment, and violent intimidation are criminal offences. Those responsible must be prosecuted—no loopholes, no discretionary enforcement. Universities must be legally required to report incidents of antisemitic harassment, intimidation, and radicalisation to the police. If mob violence is allowed to thrive on campus, it will spread into our streets and institutions, making it impossible for Jewish students—and others—to exist in public life without fear.

🔎 A full investigation into SJP, S4J, and their funders
We are calling for an independent probe into Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Students for Justice (S4J)—two groups with a well-documented history of spreading antisemitic hatred, glorifying terrorism, and fostering hostility toward Jewish students. We demand to know:

  • Who funds them?
  • Which external actors enable their campaigns of harassment?
  • Why are they allowed to operate unchecked in British universities?

Jewish Students Deserve Protection—This Must End Now

This is not just about one event at King’s College London. This is about the fundamental values of free speech, student safety, and academic integrity. What happened on that campus was a warning—Jewish students, dissidents, and anyone who dares to challenge radical dogma are no longer safe in British universities.

We must act now.

WRITE TO YOUR MP - MODEL LETTER

Subject: Urgent Action Required – Inquiry into Campus Radicalisation and Protection of Students from Harassment

Dear [MP’s Name],

I am writing to express my deep concern over the escalating climate of intimidation, harassment, and radicalisation in British universities, particularly targeting Jewish students, Iranian dissidents, and advocates of free speech. Recent events at King’s College London, where Jewish students and Iranian dissident Faezeh Alavi were bullied and silenced by a radical mob, have exposed a serious and growing threat to both student safety and democratic values on campus.

At what was meant to be a peaceful academic forum—“From Conflict to Connection: Israelis and Iranians in Dialogue”—a violent mob stormed the event, shouted down speakers, physically intimidated attendees, and openly targeted Jewish students and a Muslim woman speaking against the Islamic Republic of Iran. These tactics are not acts of protest, but an orchestrated campaign of fear designed to silence dissent and crush free debate.

What is deeply troubling is that this is not an isolated incident. Across Britain, universities have become breeding grounds for extremism, where radical student groups—often linked to external actors, extremist ideologies, and hostile state regimes—operate with impunity, openly justifying terrorism and inciting hatred. Meanwhile, university administrations have repeatedly failed to act, enabling perpetrators while blaming the victims.

The British government has a duty to act swiftly and decisively to address this crisis. Freedom of speech cannot be contingent on who shouts the loudest, and student safety must not be sacrificed to appease radical elements.

I urge you to take the following immediate actions:

📌 Launch a Formal Parliamentary Inquiry into the Radicalisation of UK Universities
We call on the government to issue a call for evidence to expose how extremist networks infiltrate universities, who funds them, and what institutional failures allow them to thrive. Transparency is critical. Parliament must investigate:

  • The funding sources behind radical student groups like Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Students for Justice (S4J).
  • The foreign influence shaping anti-democratic activities on campus, including links to Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Iranian regime.
  • The failure of universities to protect Jewish, Muslim, and pro-democracy students from intimidation and targeted harassment.

📌 Ensure the Mandatory Prosecution of Perpetrators of Campus Harassment
Threats, violence, and targeted intimidation are criminal offences. There must be no grey areas, no discretion, and no university cover-ups—all incidents of harassment must be automatically reported to the police, and perpetrators prosecuted under the full weight of the law. Universities must be legally obligated to take action, rather than relying on internal disciplinary procedures that routinely fail to hold radicals accountable.

📌 Investigate King’s College London’s Security Failures and Demand a Public Response
King’s College must be held directly accountable for its failure to protect its students. Why were radical activists allowed to roam freely and terrorise attendees? Why were Jewish students and a Muslim dissident targeted while the university remained silent? What measures will be taken to prevent future incidents?

The right to free speech, academic inquiry, and student safety is non-negotiable. It is not the role of universities to act as safe havens for extremism.

As my elected representative, I urge you to take immediate and decisive action on this issue. Britain cannot afford to allow radical intimidation to become the new norm in higher education.

I look forward to your response and to seeing real steps taken to restore the integrity of our academic institutions.

Yours sincerely,
