Defending the Truth: Israel’s Battle Against Hezbollah

At We Believe in Israel, we are launching an essential campaign to counter the barrage of falsehoods and disinformation surrounding Israel’s recent actions against Hezbollah. In recent weeks, large sections of the media have irresponsibly drawn comparisons between Israel’s intervention in Lebanon and its operations in Gaza—an outrageous distortion that has only emboldened those peddling baseless accusations of genocide. These claims are not merely false; they are deliberately divorced from context and grounded in the same, tired blood libels that have been used to demonise Jews throughout history.

Let us be absolutely clear: Hezbollah struck first. The group launched its attacks on Israel just one day after the atrocities of October 7, and since then, Israel has been subjected to a continuous barrage of rockets—yet this reality is conveniently overlooked by much of the media. Tens of thousands of Israeli families have been forced to flee their homes, businesses, and livelihoods under constant threat from Hezbollah’s rockets. This is not a conflict Israel sought, but one it has been compelled into—a sovereign nation defending itself from a terrorist organisation explicitly dedicated to its destruction.

The narrative that portrays Israel as the aggressor, allegedly committing atrocities, is as false as it is pernicious. This is not about a nation seeking conflict; it is about a nation fighting for its survival. Israel bears the immense burden not only of shielding its people from the unrelenting violence of Hezbollah but also of rescuing hostages from the unspeakable horrors inflicted by Hamas. To describe Israel as genocidal is to twist reality beyond recognition. This is a sovereign state responding to an existential threat, acting as any responsible nation would in the face of such peril: protecting its citizens from annihilation.

It is also worth remembering Hezbollah’s long and bloody history—not only against Israel, but against the West, including the UK. From the 1983 bombing of US Marines in Lebanon to the 2012 Burgas bus bombing in Bulgaria, Hezbollah has made it clear that it is not a localised threat, but an agent of chaos, spreading Iranian influence and violence across the globe. Its methods are as clear as its objectives: destabilise, deceive, and manipulate international opinion through lies and terror.

Now, Hezbollah seeks to pull the UK into its web of deceit, posturing as a defender of Lebanon and the Palestinian cause when, in fact, it is a terrorist organisation with no regard for human life. This manipulation must be rejected outright. It is our responsibility to speak with moral clarity, to refuse to be swayed by disinformation, and to stand firmly against Hezbollah’s attempts to manipulate public opinion in Britain.

At this critical moment, we must come together to correct the record and ensure that the truth is heard. The baseless narratives being promoted must be challenged, and we must remind our MPs that Israel’s actions are not merely justified—they are necessary.

Model Letter to Your MP

Dear [MP’s Name],

I write to you with deep concern regarding the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, and the troubling narrative that has taken hold in certain quarters. At a time when clarity and principle are required, we find ourselves confronted with distortions that seek to obfuscate the reality of the situation. The UK must now act decisively and in accordance with its legal and moral obligations.

Our demands are straightforward and grounded in principle:

  1. The UK must uphold the rule of law and ensure that Hezbollah’s actions are unequivocally framed as acts of terror. Hezbollah is a proscribed terrorist organisation, and its long-standing record of violence should leave no room for ambiguity. The UK cannot allow the narrative to be warped by those who seek to present this group as anything other than a force of terror, intent on destabilisation and destruction.
  2. Israel’s right to defend itself must be upheld with the same firmness that we would expect were the UK facing similar threats. Since this latest wave of aggression began, Hezbollah has subjected Israel to relentless rocket attacks, forcing tens of thousands of civilians to flee their homes. Israel’s response is not a matter of choice but of necessity, as any sovereign nation would do in such circumstances. The UK, as a nation committed to the rule of law and international order, must stand firm in support of Israel’s right to protect its people.
  3. Personal feelings about the politics of Israel must not obscure the fundamental issue at hand. Whatever one’s view of Israeli policy, it should have no bearing on the basic principle of a people’s right to defend their lives and their land against terror. The question before us is not one of politics but of survival. Personal biases should not be allowed to cloud our moral judgment in distinguishing between acts of terror and the right to self-defence.

Hezbollah’s actions, including the killing of innocent civilians and its brutal targeting of the Druze community, are well-documented. Meanwhile, Iran’s recent calls for the destruction of Israel, and the formation of a grand coalition to achieve this, underscore the existential threat Israel faces. It is imperative that we do not allow these malign actors to manipulate the narrative or distort the truth.

I urge you to raise this issue in Parliament and ensure that the UK stands resolutely behind Israel’s right to self-defence. To equivocate in the face of terrorism is not an option. The UK must reject the dangerous disinformation being spread and stand firm against those who seek to erase the distinction between aggression and defence.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Yours sincerely,
