Recognising Attacks on the Star of David as Acts of Racial Hatred under UK Law

We Believe in Israel (WBII) has today released a new report: Recognising Attacks on the Star of David as Acts of Racial Hatred under UK Law.

This report makes the case that attacks on the Star of David are not simple acts of vandalism or casual prejudice. They are direct assaults on Jewish identity — both religious and national — and must be recognised in law as such.

The Star of David is a unique symbol. It represents Judaism as a faith, the Jewish people as a community, and the State of Israel as a nation. To target it is to deny Jews the right to define themselves, and to subject them to a double standard that no other minority would be asked to endure.

Drawing on legal analysis, historical context, and case studies from across the UK and Europe, the report demonstrates that these attacks are not isolated incidents. They form part of a broader campaign of intimidation that blends antisemitism and antizionism, and they are increasing in scale and frequency.

The report argues that UK law must be updated to recognise attacks on the Star of David as acts of racial hatred. Only by doing so can the law properly reflect the reality of what Jewish communities face, and uphold Britain’s commitment to equality before the law.

WBII will present this report to Parliament at Westminster in September, urging policymakers and civil society leaders to ensure that the Jewish community is afforded the same protections as any other minority group.

We are deeply grateful to our partners — The Friends of Israel Glasgow, Stop the Hate, and The Shield of David — for their support in this vital work. Together, we are sending a clear message: attacks on the Star of David will not be ignored, and Britain must stand firm against hatred in all its forms.
