"We stand in solidarity with Israelis facing a barrage of over 500 terrorist rockets from Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) indiscriminately aimed at civilian areas, and absolutely uphold Israel’s right to defend itself against terrorism.
It is important to note that this latest cycle of violence was not initiated by Israel. The airstrikes against three senior PIJ commanders were a response to escalating PIJ terrorism in recent weeks.
Over 30% of PIJ rockets have misfired and landed inside Gaza, thus endangering Palestinians as well as Israelis.
We regret any loss of civilian life, Palestinian or Israeli, and hope for an early end to these hostilities."
